Senior Project Manager – Origination & Stakeholder Management (BESS)

About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Project Manager to lead origination and stakeholder engagement activities in the rapidly growing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market. Based in Hamburg, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and initiating new project opportunities, developing early-stage concepts, and building trusted relationships with key partners, landowners, utilities, and regulatory bodies.
This role bridges the gap between commercial strategy and technical execution, requiring both a strategic mindset and hands-on project leadership.
Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and originate new BESS project opportunities across Germany, with a focus on northern regions.
- Conduct feasibility assessments including grid connection, land use, permitting, and market viability.
- Develop and present business cases for new projects, supporting investment decisions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including landowners, municipalities, utilities, TSOs, DSOs, and regulatory authorities.
- Represent the company in public hearings, consultations, and community engagement activities.
- Manage stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle, from concept to construction readiness
- Coordinate with internal teams (engineering, grid, legal, finance, ESG) to ensure alignment and progress on early-stage project development.
- Serve as the internal lead for project origination efforts, ensuring delivery against strategic targets.
- Monitor regulatory and market developments in the German energy storage sector.
- Provide insights and recommendations to inform the company’s origination strategy.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in project management, with a minimum of 3 years in energy infrastructure or renewable energy, ideally with experience in BESS or grid-connected assets.
- Proven track record in origination and stakeholder engagement, particularly in the German energy market.
- Strong understanding of the permitting, grid connection, and regulatory frameworks in Germany.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in both German (C1+) and English.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel regionally as needed.
