About the Role
The Senior Director of Commissioning (Offshore Wind Projects) will lead the end-to-end commissioning strategy, planning, and execution for large-scale offshore wind. This includes fixed and floating offshore wind assets, substations, export cables, and integration with hydrogen production or grid infrastructure. The role ensures safe, efficient, and timely commissioning while maintaining technical, quality, and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in offshore electrical systems, grid compliance, and renewable project commissioning, combined with strong leadership skills across multidisciplinary EPC environments.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning strategies for offshore wind and hybrid renewable projects.
- Standardize and enhance commissioning methodologies aligned with corporate policies, project requirements, and international standards (IEC, DNV, ISO, GWO, etc.).
- Provide strategic leadership to commissioning managers and teams across multiple offshore assets.
- Serve as the company’s technical authority on commissioning of offshore substations, WTGs, inter-array/export cables, and grid interface systems.
- Support the company’s sustainability, digitalization, and energy transition objectives through commissioning practices.
Project Delivery
- Oversee all commissioning phases: planning, pre-commissioning, energization, and final handover.
- Ensure commissioning readiness throughout design, fabrication, installation, and testing stages.
- Review and approve commissioning documentation, including procedures, ITPs, check sheets, and turnover packages.
- Manage commissioning scope within schedule, budget, and quality parameters.
- Lead energization management and interface coordination with OEMs, TSO/DSO, and client operations teams.
- Ensure seamless integration of offshore assets with onshore substations and green hydrogen facilities where applicable.
Technical & Operational Excellence
- Drive digital commissioning and completion systems to enhance efficiency and traceability.
- Establish and monitor commissioning KPIs; conduct performance reviews and lessons-learned workshops.
- Ensure compliance with HSE and electrical safety standards, including HV/LV safety and hazardous energy control.
- Oversee grid compliance testing and verification in coordination with regulatory bodies.
- Lead risk assessments and contingency planning for offshore commissioning activities.
People & Stakeholder Management
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary commissioning team.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure alignment and smooth project handovers.
- Interface with clients, certifying authorities, OEMs, and grid operators to facilitate smooth execution and compliance.
- Represent the company in stakeholder and technical forums, ensuring credibility and trust at all levels.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.
- 20+ years of experience in commissioning, operations, or project delivery, with at least 10 years in offshore wind or HV electrical infrastructure.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale offshore wind projects (fixed or floating) from fabrication to commercial operation.
- Strong knowledge of offshore electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, SCADA, protection, and control systems.
- Experience with commissioning offshore substations (OSS), onshore substations (GIS/AIS), export and inter-array cabling, and turbine systems.
- Familiarity with green hydrogen integration, power-to-X systems, and renewable hybridization is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with digital commissioning tools (e.g., WinPCS, Completion Connect, CMS software).
- Demonstrated success leading large, multicultural teams within a matrix organization.
