About the Role
A well-established and rapidly growing design-build firm is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support mission-critical data center projects across the U.S.
This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on commissioning and validating mechanical and HVAC systems to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with design intent and owner requirements. You will lead commissioning activities from L1–L5, working closely with electrical, controls, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical commissioning activities from planning through closeout (L1–L5)
- Verify installations against BOD, OPR, applicable codes, and manufacturer requirements
- Perform functional and performance testing of mechanical systems
- Commission HVAC and mission-critical cooling systems including chilled water, condenser water, CRAH/CRAC units, AHUs, pumps, valves, and controls
- Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) in coordination with electrical and controls teams
- Develop commissioning scripts, test procedures, and load testing plans
- Produce daily reports and final commissioning documentation
- Act as on-site mechanical lead, coordinating with Owners, GCs, and trade partners
- Oversee QA/QC processes, safety compliance, and issue resolution
- Support training of operations and maintenance teams prior to handover
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- 3–5+ years’ experience in mechanical commissioning within data center environments
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and mission-critical cooling systems
- Proven experience with L1–L5 commissioning, IST, and technical documentation
- Familiarity with controls systems and sequences of operation
- Proficient with Bluebeam, CAD, and related tools
- Willingness to travel nationally and work on active construction sites
