Chief Accountant
Position Overview:
The Chief Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The role requires someone who is detail-oriented, hands-on, and able to lead a small team of accountants while working closely with senior management to provide accurate financial information that supports business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting principles and corporate policies. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data to senior management.
- General Ledger Management: Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and ensure all accounts are reconciled and balanced.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, and monitor ongoing financial performance against budgetary goals.
- Compliance & Taxation: Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and corporate accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS). Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns, including VAT, income tax, and other relevant filings.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard company assets, reduce risks, and ensure compliance with financial policies.
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor a small team of accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Audit Coordination: Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure successful audit processes and timely resolution of any audit issues.
- Financial Analysis: Provide insights and analysis of financial data to support decision-making, including identifying trends, variances, and key performance indicators.
- Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow and ensure that adequate financial resources are available to meet operational and strategic objectives.
- Process Improvement: Continuously identify areas for process improvements in accounting and financial reporting to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial regulations (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Fluency in language English and German is required; additional language skills are a plus.
