Senior GNC Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to join our dynamic space technology team in Germany. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced GNC algorithms and systems for small satellite missions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our spacecraft meet performance requirements and operate effectively in orbit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and validate GNC algorithms for satellite attitude control, orbital maneuvers, and guidance systems.
  • Perform system modeling and simulation to evaluate the performance of GNC systems under various mission scenarios.
  • Lead the integration of GNC systems with other satellite subsystems, including propulsion, sensors, and communications.
  • Conduct performance analysis and trade studies to optimize GNC algorithms for specific mission profiles.
  • Oversee the development of software tools for GNC simulations, testing, and validation.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure proper integration of sensors and actuators within the GNC framework.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and performance evaluations, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and support their professional development.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in GNC technologies and apply innovative solutions to enhance mission performance.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in GNC systems development for space applications, preferably in small satellites or cubesats.
  • Proficiency in GNC algorithms, including Kalman filtering, PID control, and trajectory optimization.
  • Strong background in system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, STK).
  • Experience with satellite sensor technologies, including IMUs, star trackers, and GPS.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in autonomous spacecraft operations and real-time control systems.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft design processes and spacecraft dynamics.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics and mission planning.
