We are seeking an experienced Energy Storage Project Development Manager to join a leading renewable energy developer focused on delivering utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Germany.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of large-scale battery storage projects from early-stage origination through to Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. Working closely with internal technical teams, local development partners, grid operators, regulatory bodies, and landowners, you will play a key role in advancing projects through permitting, grid connection, stakeholder engagement, and commercial development activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a renewable energy professional with strong project development experience and a proven track record within the German energy market. The role offers exposure to one of the fastest-growing sectors within renewable energy, supporting the expansion of energy storage infrastructure critical to the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects through to Ready-to-Build (RTB) status.
- Manage collaboration with external development partners and co-development entities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate project activities with local stakeholders, including grid operators, local authorities, landowners, and community representatives.
- Manage project development activities under co-development agreements with local partners.
- Support renewable energy development teams in integrating battery storage and other energy storage technologies into existing and new renewable energy assets.
- Assist in developing business models and operational strategies for energy storage projects.
- Conduct high-level site assessments and support project due diligence activities.
- Participate in renewable energy and energy storage portfolio acquisition opportunities.
- Monitor regulatory developments, market reforms, and policy changes affecting battery storage projects in Germany.
- Assess energy storage revenue streams and market opportunities, including wholesale electricity markets and ancillary service markets.
- Support project financial modelling through analysis of market mechanisms and revenue stack opportunities.
- Coordinate activities between local development teams, engineering consultants, and technical stakeholders.
- Ensure projects progress in line with development schedules, permitting requirements, and commercial objectives.
Your Profile
- Fluent German and English language skills are essential.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Energy Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience developing renewable energy projects.
- Proven experience supporting or leading Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development projects in Germany.
- Strong understanding of permitting processes, grid connection applications, and renewable energy project development.
- Knowledge of the German electricity market, energy regulations, and battery storage market mechanisms.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using GIS software such as Google Earth, QGIS, or similar mapping tools.
- Excellent project management, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects and deliver results within defined timelines.
